Medical/Oncology

Located on the fifth floor of the hospital, the Medical/Oncology unit provides medical and oncology services to all individuals 18 years of age and older.

The unit has a capacity of 33 beds in private rooms. There is a designated area for patients receiving treatment for cancer or palliative care when needed.

Reston Hospital utilizes primary nursing, which means a registered nurse (RN) will be responsible for your nursing care. Several of the RNs at Reston Hospital are Oncology-certified per Oncology Nursing Society standards as well as chemotherapy-certified. The staff is able to care for patients newly diagnosed with cancer, those receiving cancer treatment, those receiving care for symptom control both from the disease or side effects of the treatment, and those needing palliative care. We work closely with home care organizations and hospice to support our patients' needs after discharge.

Several cancer support groups also are available. Call 1-877-689-3627 for more information.

A Patient's Guide to Chemotherapy explains the physical and emotional effects of chemotherapy. It's an excellent resource that can help cancer patients learn how to assist during recovery.
